Fish Auction Hall

THIS IS HAMBURG!

Altona Fish Auction Hall

There is a place, a place where you can get close to Hamburg. A place where you can feel the pulse of the Elbe River and see the swinging blue and red arms of the harbour's cranes. A place where ships from all over the world sail past with walls of steel as high as houses. A place from which, you can let your eyes wander across the silhouette of the city, across the Elbphilharmonie and Landungsbrücken, the Michel Church and the giant cruise ships at the docks.

The Altona Fish Auction Hall - with its industrial look and rough charm, is one of the symbols of the city of Hamburg and always draws a crowd. In 1896 Kaiser Wilhelm II inaugurated the hall, a building styled after a Roman basilica, with red brick walls carrying the arched roof of steel and glass.
